Why does the SPLC refuse to track Anti-Black Hate crimes?

Why does the SPLC refuse to track Anti-Black Hate crimes?

by The FBA Threat Database Team on Oct 11, 2026

Since the FBI began collecting national hate-crime data in 1991, anti-Black hate crimes have been the largest individual bias category cumulatively, and it’s not even close. In an analysis of 1991–2023 records, anti-Black hate crimes accounted for about one-third of reported incidents—roughly 2.7 times the next-largest category. But if you were to go to the Southern Poverty Law Center’s website and hate map, you’d think anti-Black hate crimes were nonexistent.

In 2025, I did a video exposing the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and how they were deliberately refusing to track anti-Black hate crimes. What people may not realize is that I was on their website in an attempt to do research for the FBA Threat Database. Here is that video:

What does the SPLC track?

Here is a list of all of the things the SPLC lists as “ideologies”: Alt-Right, Anti-Immigrant, Anti-LGBTQ, Anti-Muslim, Antigovernment General, Antisemitism, Christian Identity, Christian Supremacy, Conspiracy Propagandists, Constitutional Sheriffs, General Hate, Hate Music, Holocaust Denial, Ku Klux Klan, Male Supremacy, Men Going Their Own Way (MGTOW), Men’s Rights Activists, Militia Movement, Misogynist Incels, Moorish Sovereign Citizens, National Socialists, Neo-Confederate, Neo-Nazi, Neo-Völkisch, Phineas Priesthood, Pickup Artists, Alpha Males, and the Male Supremacist “Self Help” Industry, Racist Skinhead, Radical Traditional Catholicism, Sovereign Citizens Movement, Three Percenters, White Nationalist.

Here is a list of all of the things the SPLC lists under “Hate group categories”: Anti-Immigrant, Anti-LGBTQ+, Anti-Muslim, Antisemitic, Christian Identity, General Hate, Hate Music, Ku Klux Klan, Male Supremacy, Neo-Confederate, Neo-Nazi, Neo-Völkisch, Racist Skinhead, Radical Traditional Catholicism, White Nationalist.

What’s wrong with that? Some of those affect FBAs

To the naked eye, it may seem like they’re tracking anything and everything they need to. To a trained eye, you’re able to understand that listing Neo-Confederate, Neo-Nazi, the KKK, and white nationalists, but not a straight-up and down anti-Black hate category, distorts the real numbers. What’s more is if you use the control/command find on their website, you can rarely find the word Black at all outside of maybe 2 listings. That is not an accident; it’s deliberate.

Statistical Manipulation

How the SPLC’s Statistical Manipulation negatively affects FBA-specific legislation

Let’s say I’m looking for statistics and details regarding regions where anti-Black hate crimes are happening- possibly for proof to pass legislation. If, instead of it being listed under the proper category “anti-Black,” the number one victims of hate crimes, the data is scattered and diverted into other categories, then it gives other groups the ability to bring forward proof to get protections and resources instead of FBAs. It’s the same old broadening con game that is used by politicians to redirect FBA-specific policies, laws, and resources into “minority” and “disadvantaged communities” categories. In other words, damn near everyone on planet earth.

If an anti-Black hate crime is committed by a white male against an FBA/Black woman as he screams the N-word, a statistic manipulator could easily change the incident from an anti-Black hate crime to “anti-Women” or “Male Supremacy.” If an FBA/Black mosque is targeted and attacked by white nationalists due to anti-Black hate, that crime could be funneled into white nationalism or anti-Muslim instead of what it was: anti-Black hate. Meanwhile, anti-LGBTQ and antisemitic get their own categories on the SPLC website.

SPLC influencing law enforcement

Why SPLC’s refusal to list and track anti-Black hate crimes is significant

A person reading this article may ask the question, “Why does it matter?” The SPLC isn’t an FBA/Black organization, so you can’t expect them to track anti-Black hate crimes.

For those who don’t know, the Southern Poverty Law Center had direct connections to the Pentagon. They supplied extremism-training materials until they were finally cut off in October 2017. And that’s not the only government agency the SPLC had influence over. The FBI only recently, in 2025, cut off the SPLC from their data banks- a decision that could easily be reversed by future administrations.

SPLC's affect on Big tech algorithms

The SPLC’s hidden hand in influencing “Big tech” algorithms

The Southern Poverty Law Center not only has connections to law enforcement and the government, it also has a hand in influencing the infamously skewed big tech algorithms. The SPLC gives advice, content reports, and its lists of organizations directly to big tech. Those inputs can affect moderation decisions and screening systems. Obviously, this is not the SPLC directly writing or controlling the algorithms; however, their influence affects rankings and algorithmic visibility. The best documented example of this is the SPLC’s participation in YouTube’s Trusted Flagger program.

Money hungry splc

The SPLC’s money-hungry history

The SPLC has faced longstanding criticism for aggressive fundraising and repeatedly moving its stated endowment goal. In his November 2000 Harper’s investigation, journalist Ken Silverstein reported that co-founder Morris Dees promised in 1978 to stop fundraising and support the organization through investment income once its endowment reached $55 million; as that target approached, the goal rose to $100 million. On top of that, the Southern Poverty Law Center and similar organizations have the nerve to ask FBAs for donations and volunteer work hours.

Organizations like the SPLC get government funding from our tax dollars via grants, and at least some of their money was funneled into overseas accounts. Meanwhile, real non-profits that benefit the FBA community, like the Hidden History Museum, are chronically underfunded and rejected for local, state, and federal grants.

The FBA Threat Database

What the SPLC’s neglect means for The FBA Threat Database

The Southern Poverty Law Center is yet another example that FBAs have no friends. We can't depend on other ethnic groups and/or non-profits to help protect and support us. We have to do it ourselves. This is why the FBA Threat Database is unapologetically focused on FBA issues and anti-Black hate.

It is the duty of the FBA community, and in particular FBA Men, to provide the resources that our community needs to stay safe and informed.
